Samundar Katha Lake has located about 35 Km from Abbottabad and 97 Km from Islamabad, near Bara Gali in the beautiful Galiyat region. It is a very beautiful man-made lake which is formed after the construction of a small Dam on the Samundar Katha water stream.
The Small Dam was constructed by the Forest Department of the KPK government to avoid land sliding and the flow of clay soil with water especially in the moon soon season. The flow of clay soil with water is harmful to forests particularly for new mini plants and trees until their root gets stronger and protect the tree life.
"This beautiful Samundar Katha Lake is almost 40 to 50 meters long and 20 to 30 meters wide in a very narrow valley among the lush green high mountain towered over the lake."
The water of Samandar Katha lake looks extremely green when you take a selfie and extremely bluish when you capture the view from the rear camera of your smartphone. The reason for the extremely green water is actually a mirroring of lush mountains of this narrower valley standing along the lake.

Katha is a local name given to a small mountain river in the Hindko Language in almost all parts of the Hazara Division and Kashmir region.
Samandar Katha lake is the nearest lake to Murree at 58 Km through Nathia Gali road. You can also approach this lake from Abbottabad and Nathia Gali as well. When you reach Bara Gali you will see the road sign of Samundar Katha Lake and the next 6 Km road from Bari Gali is going deep downs into the mountains and you will enjoy the amazing sound of birds, cool air, and scenic view of the abundant type of plants and trees along the road. All of the roads are metallic or blacktop except the last kilometer which is rough and unpaved some part of the road is slippery due to pebbles and clay but you will also enjoy it. Samundar Katha lake is top-rated lake in Galiyat and Murree regions at easy access.

Local residents still, have some administrative issues to make this place more facilitated and luxurious for travelers coming here from all over Pakistan.
KPK government has to pay due attention to providing more facilities to the tourists as were earlier provided by local investors and people. Due to legal issues, the government has removed encroachments and illegal constructions and stopped Zip-Liner and Boating due to safety issues.
May all issues get resolved soon as per Quality and Safety standards and tourists may enjoy all entertainment and other due facilities as well. There is no residence facility available at the locality of Samundar Katha lake for tourists who want to stay.
